Bendigo Cycling Club

Lindsay´s involvement in cycling began in 1982 when sons Terry and Jamie began to show a serious interest in the sport; rekindling an involvement that began with their maternal great grandfather Charles "Tassie" Johnson at the beginning of the century and continued for several years with members of his family.
In his own active sporting days Lindsay played football with YCW football club in the early sixties;leter serving as Treasurer of that club for three years. Lindsay was an active and popular member of Bendigo South Rotary Club taking part in many of the clubs service projects in Bendigo, New Ginuea and Samoa.
Lindsay was a keen shooter, a long time member of the Bendigo Clay Target Club, winning several championships before turning his attention to cycling and coaching hiws two sons toward their own cycling successes and encouragning daughter Julie in entball.
Cycling quickly became the "family" sport with trips around the Victorian, NSW and Tasmanian Cycling circuits. Lindsay spent several of the following nine years as juvenile hadicapper and five of these years as Vice President. As part of the cycling club committee he was one of the strongest advocates for building the clubs own clubrooms; a successful and popular venture. Lindsay was made a life member of the club in July 1990 and was delighted with his tribute to his dedication.
He was much in demand as a pusher in handicap events because of his ability to give his "pushees" a strong start in these events.
Lindsay fought a courageouus battle with cancer, never giving up until his death on Anzac Day, 25th. April 1991.
